A Beginner’s Guide to Setting Up A Money Making Blog

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

If you have a new blog, or are about to set one up for the first time, then you may already have some clear ideas about the sort of content you want to include and the types of readers you would like to attract so that you can make money on the Internet. Diving right in to the world of blogging may not be the best way to achieve success, however. Some early planning can make all the difference in creating a blog that will do what you need it to.

Bloggers who just want some space to express themselves or to share their news with friends and family can just set up a simple blog and start typing whenever inspiration hits. However, if you have more serious goals for you blog, for example in attracting large number of readers, promoting your products, or generating some income from advertising, then you will need to approach blogging in a professional manner.

The first thing to consider is the sort of content you are going to post. This should be tailored to the type of readers you want to attract, which will depend on the purpose of your blog. You should decide what sort of topics you want to cover, and keep within this range, so that your readers will know what to expect from you, and the right people will want to come back. Few people are likely to share every interest that you have, so choosing a few related ones on which to specialize will mean that you can provide some useful or entertaining content in every post. Few people want to keep reading a blog when only half of the posts relate to what they’re interested in.

Have a look at some other blogs that discuss similar things. What d o the successful ones have in common? Is there something you can add to your blog that is not available on any other? If you can offer them something they cannot get elsewhere, then you are more likely to get a loyal following. You may have an interesting perspective on events, or be able to give an informed opinion on certain products, or even add your own artistic touch to the blog.
